Brian Dabul of Argentina picked up his first major title at the Italian Open when he defeated Lamine Ouahab of Algeria in the finals, 6-7(5),6-2,7-6(6). Brian had captured the 24th International Tournament "Citta Di Santa Croce" the week before. Also at the Italian Open, Adam Feeney & Chris Guccione of Australia won the doubles, while Barbora Strycova of the Czech Republic defeated Myriam Casanova of Switzerland in the girls singles, 6-1,7-6(2). Barbora also won the doubles with partner Anna-Lena Groenfeld. It was just a week later that Anna-Lena took the singles and doubles crowns at the Astrid Bowl, this time with the Ukraine's Viktoria Kutuzova. Other champions at that event were Boys' singles winner Luis Flores of Mexico and doubles winners Brian Baker and Brendan Evans of the USA.
