QUALIFYING
October 20th-Qualifying began yesterday with two rounds completed and a few surprises. Top seed Laura Granville (Stanford) breezed through her matches, 6-1,6-1 over Faye DeVera (ASU) and 6-1,6-3 over Brooke Siebel (Duke). Second seeded Jacqui Boyd (USC) advanced through the first round after a default and then squeezed past Mariana Eberle (Mississippi), 7-6(4),7-6(4). Seeds Lauren Kalvaria (Stanford, No. 3) and Jennifer Embry (Purdue, No. 5) advanced while Caroline Von Rossum (William & Mary, No. 4), Kara Warkentin (USC, No. 6), Holly Freudenberg (Loyola Marymount, No. 7) and Galina Seliounina (Houston, No. 8) didn't make it through the rounds.
October 21st-Top seeds Lauren Granville and Jacqui Boyd were the only seeded players to make it through the qualifying rounds. Granville advanced with a 6-0,6-0 win over Karoline Borgersen (Cal) while Boyd defeated Liesl Fichtbauer (Fresno St), 6-2,6-4. The other singles qualifiers are: Mira Radu (Mississippi), Kathy Sell (Duke), Maureen Diaz (UCI), Sara Walker (UCLA), Andrea Ondrisova (VCU) and Adria Engel (Wake Forest). In the doubles draw, the following teams qualified: Karoline Borgersen/Anita Kurimay (Cal); Petya Marinova/Sara Walker (UCLA); Esther Knox/Aarthi Venkatesan (Georgia); and Martina Nedelkova/Andrea Ondrisova (VCU). Nedelkova/Ondrisova were the only seeds (No. 7) left in the tournament.
