2004 USTA NATIONAL HARDCOURT CHAMPIONSHIPS-GIRLS 16s
Barnes Tennis Center - San Diego, California - August 8-15, 2004
Sunday, August 8, 2004-First Day San Diego lived up to its reputation today as one of the places with the best weather in the world. Lots of sunshine, low humidity and temperatures in the seventies kept the spirits high as everything moved smoothly on the first day of the USTA National Girls 16 Hardcourts. All of the seeds had the day off so there were no upsets to be had. In fact, the 64 singles matches went off on schedule with few even reaching third sets. Tournament Director Anne Podney had it all under control as she posted the match information for each court outside the tournament desk. As is usual for the first day of a National tournament, I didn't make it from behind the camera much today and before we knew it, the first round was done. Doubles play began this afternoon. Like the singles, there were plenty of byes so there were no surprises. Tomorrow should be a different story, however. As all of the main draw players take to the court there is sure to be some unexpected results and I'll be there to check them out. Until Tomorrow,
Marcia Frost
