While everyone expects the top players to come from the states of year-round warmth, the East has been quietly dominating. At the USTA Girls' 18 National Team Championships, the Eastern team (above) took the title for the first time in 63 years, defeating Southern in the finals, 4-3. At the 16s Zonals in St. Louis, another Eastern team (below) took the gold. Southern California did, however, take the 16s Intersectionals.

The Italian boys and Ukraine girls were the winners at the World Junior Tennis Finals. Japan placed second place for the boys, while Russia took silver in the girls.

Lauren Albanese, who won the USTA Girls' 18 National Hardcourts and the wildcard into the US Open main draw that came with it, was also the winner of the Wichita Pro Circuit $10,000 this summer.

Rosen Cantlin of Vermont and Matthew Kranich of Colorado have been named the winners of the 2006 Novo Nordisk Donnelly Awards, a $5,000 scholarship for educational expenses, tennis training or medical expenses. The award is administered by World Team Tennis and was given at the WTT Finals.

Anna Kournikova, Tracy Austin and Luke & Murphy Jensen are featured celebrities at the Frisco Pro Celebrity Classic, an event to benefit the Maureen Connolly Brinker Foundation. The Classic will take place on November 18th in Dallas. For more information, call 214-467-8277.
