So far, 2004 has been an incredible year for 16 year old Jessica Nguyen. The California has won a $10,000 Top Gun event, a $50,000 Wild Card tournament and an 18s Designated Championships. Jessica will play in the Easter Bowl next month. * * *
Following in the tradition on the National Hardcourts in Kalamazoo, the Boys 18 and 16 National Claycourts will be hosted together in the Washington, DC area. The tournament, which is expected to draw nearly 10,000 spectators, will be held July 18-25 at five different area clubs. Tournament Director Jeff Szekely has sponsorship from companies that include Wilson, Acura, Coca Cola and Nike. * * *
Michaela Krajicek celebrated her return from a knee injury with a win at the International Bavarian Junior Challenge in Nuremberg, Germany. She defeated Anastasia Petoukhova in the finals for her ninth title. Local wildcard Daniel Brands was the boys winner. * * *
Bonnebell, who recently came back as sponsor of the Maureen Connolly Brinker Cup, has now announced that Smackers will be the sponsor of the 2004 Road to the Little Mo Nationals. Smackers will be the official lip balm and cosmetics brand of this years circuit which features players 11 and under. * * *
Two players were the big winners at the Copa Milo in Santiago. Evgeniya Rodina of Russia took both girls singles and doubles titles while Juan Del Potro of Argentina did the same on the boys side. * * *
Croatia's Franco Skugor won his first ITF Junior Circuit Grade 2 title with a 6-4,6-2 win over Mykyta Kryvonos of the United States at the Condor de Plata. Argentina's Florencia Molinero was the girls singles winner. * * *
Fourteen year old Nicole Vaidisova has one two out of the three professional events she has played. The win at the $25,000 World Tennis Club brought her match streak to nine out of ten. In addition, she is currently ranked in the top ten of the ITF World Junior Rankings * * *
Eduardo Schwank of Argentina made it three consecutive when he took the boys trophy at the Copa Schick in Ecuador. * * *
