Another year of junior tennis has come to a close and as College And Junior Tennis enters its 15th year online (Can you believe it?!) it seemed like the perfect time to wrap-up the end of year tournaments that just finished.
Austria's Dominic Thiem -- pictured right -- proved that he should be on top of the world (No. 2, to be exact, as of 1/2/11) when he took the Boys' 18 titles at both the Eddie Herr International and Orange Bowl Championships, but there were a number of Americans who had great showings too -- especially the girls.
Thirteen year old Tornado Ali Black is no stranger to the final rounds as she came in second at the Eddie Herr in 2009 (12s) and 2010 (14s). This was her year as she picked up the title in the 16s. Tornado also made quite a showing at the Orange Bowl, losing in the last round to Alyssa Smith. Californian Dominique Schaefer swept singles and doubles at Eddie Herr. Eleven year old Claire Liu came through the Junior Orange Bowl draw unseeded and walked away with the title, but it wasn't quite the feat that unseeded Mariya Shiskina pulled off. The Floridian saved six match points (see the full story on Zoo Tennis) to beat No. 6 Anhelina Kalina in the 14s at Eddie Herr.
