Kyle Porter, a Floridian who swept that state's championships before playing for Vanderbilt, died in an automobile accident. The 27 year old had left Vanderbilt after his second year to pursue a career on the tour.

Texas Southern University has decided to suspend its spring program due to controversy over player's scholarships. The move is considered temporary whle the school "will regroup and develop a program that benefits the students and TSU."

UCLA took the titles at the Sherwood Cup, with the singles going to Haythem Abid and the doubles to Phillip Grundler & Ben Kohllofel.

NYU men's coach John Curtis was presented with the Coach of the Year Award by the USPTR Eastern Board of Directors.

* * *

Rosemont College freshman Priyanka Reddy was featured as one of Sports Illustrated's Faces in the Crowd after an undefeated season where she was won the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Championship, was PAC Player of the Week four times. She was also named the conference's Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year. Priyanka trained at the Port Washington Tennis Academy as a junior.

Coaching Changes... Mark Buddle has been named Head Men's & Women's Coach at Union College... St. Petersburg College ired Phil Girardi to coach the first-year women's tennis program... Shelley George has joined Syracuse as Luke Jensen's Assistant Coach for the women's team.
