Thirty-one former college tennis players descended on the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics at the end of July. Most of them didn't make it past the first round, but a few played their way all the way to the podium for medals.

The big winner was in men's doubles. Australians John Peers, who played for Middle Tennessee and then Baylor, and partner Matthew Ebden took the Gold over former Illini Rajeev Ram and Texas A&M standout Austin Krajicek. The Americans lost in a match that was about as close as you can get, with two tie-break sets and a deciding match tiebreaker, 6-7(6),7-6(1),10/8.

This was a second medal for Peers, who also won bronze in the mixed doubles in Toyko in 2020 with fellow Aussie Ashley Bartey. It was a second silver for Ram, who has one from 2016, when he and Venus Williams took second to Jack Sock and Bethanie-Mattek Sands in an all-American match.

Diana Shnaider, who played for North Carolina State, won a silver medal with Mirra Andreeva. Both were representing "Individual Neutral," a group of Russian & Belarus athletes. The pair lost in the finals to Italy's Sarah Errani and Jasmine Paolini, 2-6,6-1,10/7.

Two-time NCAA singles champion Danielle Collins, who spent a year at the University of Florid before playing for the University of Virginia, made it to the singles quarterfinals before bowing out with an injury. She was also in that round of doubles with former Arizona State player Desirae Krawcyzk. Collins is currently in the top ten in singles.

Another American standout, Jessica Pegula of the University of Pittsburgh, made it to the second round in singles and doubles (with Coco Gauff), before falling.

Stanford alum Bob Bryan coached the men's team for the United States, while Kathy Rinaldi was the women's coach. On hand to help was Mike Bryan, who won bronze in the 2008 Olympics and Gold in 2012 with his brother.
